Tibetan Painted Panels

We had the rare opportunity this year to purchase a large collection of Tibetan painted panels. They all came from one source who had been collecting them from monasteries in eastern Tibet for the past several years. Most of these were rescued from monasteries which were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.

Some were used as room dividers, some were built into walls or used as doors on built-in cupboards, while others were rescued from large furniture pieces which were destroyed. Doors are obvious from the top and bottom pins on which they pivoted. Many of the panels have chamfered edges while others were framed with wood.

As has been the case with painted Tibetan furniture for several years, newly "created" painted panels are now beginning to appear on the market from workshops in China and even Tibet. All the panels shown here are guaranteed to be absolutely authentic.

If making inquiries about a specific panel or pair of panels, please be sure to include its inventory number.   The dimensions of each panel can be found on its enlargement page.

For prices please send us an email requesting the 2003 Painted Panel price list. To assure that your email will be received please add "panel price list" to the subject line of your email.
