Most of the items in this collection of Tibetan silver are ritual objects used
in religious ceremonies. Performed in a variety of places, Tibetan rituals
virtually always demand special implements, which in turn are imbued with
magical powers.
Because of their importance, these ritual objects were often fashioned from
precious metals, especially silver, and were often decorated with inlaid
precious stones. As can be seen from the objects in this collection, they
were lavishly decorated with motifs of symbolic importance. Many of these
items show off the skill and artistry of the Tibetan metal workers as much as
their statuary.
